THANK A MILLION DAN.....NICE PIC'S AND STORY!

Hello Fam-ba-lie.

What a nice yet, long over due pictures and letters from Daniel. I can feel his excitement, his adventures as I read his blogs. He seems to have a great sense of direction of what he wants but more importantly he has such passion. I thought his suit to be exquisite and to think it was only $150!!! WOW. If I we him I do believe before I left China, I would have a couple o more of those made, in a heart beat! I sure hope either Dad or I can go visit him before he leaves China. I would be great if we both could, but I am afraid the cost of both will be beyond our means in the next year and a half. Unless of course Daniel can find Dad a temporary job. Then I can see us both going!....HOW BOUT IT DAN????

I guess Vickie has become Daniel "Good" friend. I did ask him about her and all he said was that she was "Pretty Sweet" and I see that all his travel plans include her! The travel plans sound so fantastic that I can only dream as Dan experience it. I did make an overseas trip with Daddy 5 years ago and it has never dulled in my memory, and to this day when I close my eyes, I can see that great rain forest with its magnificent vines reach back down toward the earth. The green of the ocean, and the white of the sand. It is simply wonderful to see the diversity of God's great earth. I do so envy Dan, but without jealousy. I am thrilled for him.

Daniel my dear, you must continue to find time to write, as much as you love and need our touch, we too, need yours. I am sure that the whole family will be feasting off your letter and pictures and filling our lonely places for you with them. Never be too busy to water and feed your 'roots'. It will keep the rest of you balanced and whole.
"Mothers Words of Wisdom"

Today is Sunday December 14Th, Daddy has gone to Service in Bathurs, but due to a cold I have remained home. I can see today that I am much improved and feel I am at the end of this virus.
Ihad invited the Daycare next door over to my house to have a "Cookie-Party". They decorated Gingerbread cookies and cut out Rice-crispy square cookies into Gingerbread men. They were all 3 and 4 years old. It was delightful to have them for the morning. I had seven children in all. The night before Auntie Joan and I cooked cookies and prepare the decoration and frosting etc. Was nice to have Joanie here to help me. She came up from Fredericton to have a four day visit, to start off her Holidays. The only thing that could have improved that day would have been if I had my Grandchildren here.....but the truth is if I could have accessed the grandchildren for a cookie-party, the kids next door would have never had a chance. I think in truth, they help fill a lonely longing for my own babies!
However in four more weeks, I will be in G.P. with my babies....YaaaHooo!!!
In the family news, Heidi is very under the weather, she is fighting a bad cold, as is Nonni. I think Daddy Kris brought it home to them from his last hitch. The Poor Wayes! The Standring's (Joe's Fam) are ready for Christmas and Joe is off work for a few weeks, as he is starting a new job. Roxi is disappointed not to have her new floor installed before Xmas, but is now going into gear to decorate the living room for the Xmas joys to come Her floor is to be installed in the New Year instead.. I haven't heard from Isaac and Becky since my last post, but that usually means all is well. I am to understand that a Christmas dinner is going to happen OUT this year, restaurant style. I have done that once or twice and loved it. I hope that the G.P. gang will have a great time. Of course some of you men-folk will be away I am sure. It is impossible for everyone to have the same time off. I trust that the gift exchange will be a blessing to all. Daniels gift and care package has been sent off, I think he will love Kristopher's gifts. It was not a hugh package, I say, about equal to two large shoe boxes, it's cost was $50 to mail. I understand that it takes weeks and weeks to arrive. It is costly but then again the same parcel mailed to Alberta would have easily been $30 so for $20 more and all the way to China...Not bad!
I understand that it is Xmas Concert time for our Boys, so Mommy's please do down load us some videos and pictures. It means the world to Papa and I and Uncle Daniel to see the Xmas school happenings.
I love you all, with all my heart, As Ever Mother/Nana

What a busy Front Yard Today!

Some Chinesey pics for Mom

This is Jess and Vicky in Dalian

The place where I had my suit made has hundreds and hundreds of stalls where fabrics can be purchased and tailors can be commissioned to make anything out of anything. I was thinking of Mom when I took this one. I thought, "well this one won't look like it was taken in Canada". This is not the stall I bought from. I just liked their fabric layout.

Another Shot from the same place

This is Jess picking up a dress she had made

This one is only really funny if you can see what's written on the can. It's 'Red Oxen' The most blatent Red Bull (energy drink) rip off ever.

The dish on the left is pronounced Cheeadzeh TuDo It's and eggplant dish. The one on the right is Gwo Ba Roe, one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted, and definutely my favorite new dish since I've moved to China. I usually get rice with most meals too (here its 'me fan').

This is a meal at a Korean Restaurant. The middle of the table is a grill. A girl sits at the table and cooks the meat for you as you enjoy your appitizers.

OK,so I guess this should tie you all over for a bit. I'm really sorry I don't get this done more often. It just seems that there is always so much going on (which is great for me). Keep up all the posting though. I read this blog all the time and I love it. It's so nice to have over here. The more pics and vids the better. I love Aunika vs the Mango, Achoo, 'nows, Scook and his mom singing with the fish... and many many more. I don't get to it everyday, but I see it at least 3 or 4 times a week.

I love you all tons.

A Long overdue letter

This pic was taken today when I was out for a walk at the beach. I am standing on the edge of a small cliff (maybe 30 ft high).

OK I know how long it’s been since I wrote a nice long letter to all of you guys. I have been busy with many things in both my personal and professional life. At present I am sitting on the Qinguay (pronounced Ching Gway). The Qinguay is basically an intra-city railway. Like a subway but above ground. I had planned on typing up my lesson plans while on this trip, but it also seems like a good time out to let you all know how things are going in a little more detail.
I am on my way to Dalian (a little less than an hour by Qinguay). The trip will cost me 6 yuan or about $1 . I am going to pick up a suit that I had made by a tailor who specializes in custom suits.

The suit is a 3 piece, and all chocolate brown. It is tailored to be a slim fit. The vest should taper at my waist. I will wear it to a large Christmas party being put on for Maple Leaf Staff this evening. We will supposedly have a beautiful hall in the Victorian Hotel in Kai Fa Qu (pronounced Kie Fah Chu). This is about a 20min Qinguay ride from Jin Shi Tan (home). The event is to be catered by a western food specialist with the moniker Eddie. I’ve eaten at his restaurant before and it was excellent. He makes a great pumpkin soup. It should be a blast. My suit is all top quality wool and double stitched. The entire gig cost me $800 yuan or about $150. It’s a really neat experience, choosing a fabric, having a ridiculous amount of measurements taken, choosing style and modifying details, waiting 2 weeks and then going back and getting a 1 of a kind outfit.

Aside from living a rather sweet lifestyle, I have also managed to put away about $10,000 so far in my Canadian account. Now not all of that will stay where it is since I will be visiting a good bit of south east Asia for my 5 week holiday. The trip has been modified a little bit since I last spoke with any of you. So far Vicky and I have purchased our tickets from Dalian to Shenzen, and from Shenzen to Kota Kanabalu in Borneo. Once we land in Shenzen, we will take a train across the border to Hong Kong for a brief two day stay. Not a place I really want to spend a lot of time, but it is a city that I really want to see. I fully expect to be blown away.

We have a ton of stuff planned for Borneo. It is here that I plan to become a trained and globally certified PADI diver. This is expected to take 3-4 days of courses and dives (at least two dives a day). There are a lot of things that we will decide on when we get there, but a couple of things that we plan on are visiting a section of jungle that serves as an Orang-utan sanctuary. It’s a rehabilitation sanctuary as a matter of fact. Orang-utans, who have been injured or orphaned, are brought here to grow up or get better in a safe government protected. We also plan to visit Turtle Island. Where we will watch turtles swill ashore and lay their eggs and/or see turtles hatch and make their way to the sea. A number of dives may take place on both Borneo’s East and west coast. (by the way, I just watched the BBC "planet earth" on caves earlier today, and there is a huge chunk of it set in Borneo.
From Borneo , We will probably fly to Singapore for a couple of days of high living and relaxation to recharge our batteries. Then we will ride the railway (first first class of course) up through southern Thailand for a couple of days until we reach either Phucket or some other place where there are world class tropical waters with coral reefs. After a week or so of diving and beach chilling in Phucket, we will continue on to Bangkok most likely. From Bangkok, we would fly to Shenzen and from Shenzen to Dalian.

Back-note:
When I went to visit Dre, we didn`t really do very much that makes for good writing or reading. We mostly hung out. Discussed. The same old thing you've all seen us do on a million occasions. Though I can you about a few things of particular note. We visted a wood museum that is actually in Andre`s gated community (I posted some pics much earlier. We ate dinner on a cruise ship that was converted into a permanent restaurant in downtown Shenzen. We went shopping in a gigantic copy market in Guong Jo (I think). It was a great time.

OK I'm getting close to my stop so I'll write a little more on the way home.
I've been standing on the Qinguay for the last 25 min, but finally got a seat (way home). The suit is fantastic. I've got a new shirt and tie to go with it too. A little questionable for me... they're pink. I cannot recall ever having owned an article of clothing that was pink. We'll see. I'll send photos.
I still like my apartment, and love the convenience of living across the street from school. However I am considering a move to Kai Fa Qu. Some of the apartments I`ve seen in town that the other teachers have are so nice. No final decision yet, in fact I haven`t even started looking just thinking.
I`m having a great time here. In fact, I am already committed to coming back next year. Not officially just in my head. I am in the process of applying for a masters degree from UBC. They are setting up a special program for a group of teachers here at Maple Leaf. I will most like do a masters of arts in education. I would like to specialize in neurology and learning in children, as I think I would enjoy doing a PhD in this area sometime much later. It seems fairly certain that this will happen (barring unforeseen circumstances). This means that I will be living in the Okanagan for the next 2 summers as I work with some profs on my new degree. I am really psyched to get back into school again (on the student side I mean) ha ha ha. I hope everyone can come and visit me for a bit this summer in the Okanagan.
I am so pleased with where my life has brought me. There is so much adventure to be had and beautiful places to see out there. I live for the most part, a low stress life. And the intellectual challenges and opportunities I face and have are seemingly endless. Just taking a cab can be a challenge here. I can say life is rarely dull. I love you all so much. I hope some of you manage to visit me while I live overseas. I think I will trot the globe for another decade or two, so if you want to see some of China, now’s the time.

Roxi asked me if I would post some pictures of Vicky and I so I'll end the letter with these. Call me anytime (this is what you need to dial from Canada)

Merry Christmas: Joe,Corinna and Caleb Standring

Wow, StandringFam, that was a wonderful poem. It was fantastic to see you Christmas pictures. Caleb looks so full of sparkle. He is such a great grand-kid! He called me tonight to thank me for his Christmas card. He was excited to get his "Man Tooth money" He asked me again what I would like him to buy me for Christmas...He said I could have something up to about $4. God Love His Heart!xoxoxo! He is precious. He always thinks about giving me gifts. When he was done making his first rocks from his rock polisher, he called me asked me for my address. He copied it down while I spelled out each part. When I was done he informed me that he was going to mail me a special rock. I think I already own the most important thing he has...His Heart. Oh that is my Biffer. Thank you Joe and Corinna for such a fine boy. And thanks for the pictures. Keep them coming...xoxoxoxoxox

As most of you know Hadassah had a harrowing experience. She found a pill that her mommy dropped, and ate it. It posed a danger of speeding her little heart up, so mommy had to rush her to ER where the feed (choked down) charcoal to absorb the medication. All ended well, she is fine. They monitored her little heart for over two hours. At the end of the day,her and Mommy went back home, all spotted and black from all the charcoal that Dassi had managed to spit out! We are all glad that nothing happened to our little Joy-Bell. She gives us all so much happiness. I noted that when Papa prayed for her here at home, on his knees, that he thanked God for the love and blessing that she brings to us! That is nothing but the truth about Hadassah, she brings so my love. I for one thank GOD for her!! I( must also tell you all that just a few days earlier, she gave her Mommy a kiss. Mommy was laying in bed with her eyes closed, and Dassi was watching a baby show on TV. She leaned down, planted her lips on her mommy's lips, pushed made the kissy sound and said to her mom...."Sweet, Sweet!" Oh that just melts my heart. That baby girl is darling!

Scott-Isaac called papa and I this week with so awesome news. He was a sports hero.
It was during Gym and the grade fours were playing floor-hockey. The game was at a tie...2 to 3 for Scott's team..it was in the last period, when the opponents came barrelling down the floor-way and slap the ball toward the net. At exactly the right moment Scott-Isaac (the goalie) raised his glove and caught the flying ball stopping the only goal that could have taken the win from them, bring it to a tie. His classmates when crazy with the excitement of the save and he was the Hero! GO SKEE GO!!!! Papa and I are soooooooooooo proud of you!

Aunika, well sir, she had learned how to say "Hello". She now understands the concept of the "Hello. Mommy and Daddy Waye used Hello all week long. She did repeat the word when the used it. A day or so ago they found out that she understood it's meaning. During the night Aunika awoke and was not tired enough to return to sleep. Heidi and Kris just let her creep around on the bed in between them.
Not want to stimulated, they chose not to engage in her play, but rather just pretend that they were sleeping. So Nonni, knowing where her nippies are when she want to nurse, lifted up her mommy's top and when she saw Nippies she smiled and said "Aalloo" She would pull her mom's top back down, only to lift it again and great her loving Nippies with another "Aaalloo"...Needless to say Heidi was no longer able to keep from laughing, and blew her pretend sleep cover...best of all is that Nonni has learned a new word and it full meaning!! xoxoxox.

I also imagine you might have heard that Dino (Becky and Isaac's big old baby) ate a lot of chocolate last week. He was sick, but recovered okay. He and Isaac are great pals! Isaac says Dino is a geart walking buddy. He never leaves Isaac's side, not even if Dino see another dog coming he will not run away, he just sticks to Isaac. That is pretty special I'd say. I have never accomplished that yet!?!(With a dog or kids!)

Auntie Joanie is here visiting me for a few days. NICE! I am so pleased that she wanted to begin her Christmas Holidays with my company. we will have a good time. Tonight we baked Snicker doodle cookies. I have no idea who will eat them all??? I know guys to bad you do not live closer. Snicker doodle cookie are a light sugar cookie baked in cinnamon sugar. However my oven is malfunction. F10 appears in my display and then it will shut off. It is not heating properly. This is very bad because I invited 10 to 12 three and four year olds to come over to my house this Thursday to bake cookies!! They are form the Day-Care right behind me. Karen Clarks. If all else fails I will made the out of Rice Crispie Squares!???

Daniel's Christmas package is already to leave. Heidi and Kris had us put Daniel Christmas gift from Kristopher (name Draw) in our parcel because they sent Daniel some not only Canadian, but very MIRAMICHI Canadian. So Dad and I help them by picking it up for them here. Daniel said he wanted something Canadian, Well, Heidi and Kris came up with the ultimate gift!!! There are a few fun things from Mom and Dad. We had a Setson Hat for him but it is too small..Dan gave us his head measurement. The hat will not fit. Too bad to, cause it is an old fashion style and I do think he would love it!

A Package is in the mail today for Skee, some old VHS movies of Papa's and a few little things for Dassi too.
It is nearly 2 am, I must get some sleep. I am fighting a flu and am winning...Now that is something for me!

I love you all....God Bless....Mother/Nana

Oh Standring Christmas Tree

On a snowy, snowy Sunday eve,

The Standring fam decorated their tree,

The soft warm glow of the electric fire place,

Shone softly on each smiling face,

Singing songs and telling stories of Christmas past,

The growing excitement for Santa to come at last

What fun it was, what fun we had,

Caleb and his Mom and Dad.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

Love The Standrings

To Be Read To Caleb Seth Standring

Hi My Darling Grandson.

Papa and I, Nana heard the exciting news of your "New Front Tooth". Now as you know Caleb, most kids get money from the tooth fairy when they "Loose" a tooth. They put the tooth under their pillow and in the morning when they wake up, the tooth is gone and there is money left. Some people believe that if the tooth is good and strong that the tooth fairy will use it and give it to a baby, you know, like Aunika who needs baby teeth so that she can eat big people food. I am sure that the tooth fairy has used some of your baby teeth that have fallen out. In fact I was told that once, when you lost your baby tooth, that in that same week your cousin Dassi got a new one....Who knows maybe it was yours?

Papa and I are very proud of your new tooth, we know that you waited a long, long time for your front teeth. When you were a little baby, the enamel was too soft on your baby teeth. Nana was there the day that the Doctor/Dentist had to pull them out. You were only two years old. You were the bravest baby Nana ever saw. Mommy and I bought you special treats that day, a couple of new toys and some soft ice-cream. We gave you a ride in a space ship that was in the mall. We just wanted to make your hard day a happy one. Mommy and Nana are good at that!

In celebration of the long wait, the brave baby, and your brand new tooth, Papa and I, Nana are sending you money in your Christmas card. Yes money for you new Man Tooth.Wow now that is special, money when they fall out, and money when they grow back in!!! We want you to buy yourself a treat. Now when you can see the second upper tooth, you MUST let us know, and guess what???? We will send you another card with MORE money for the second tooth and when you can see the third one and the fourth one, we will send you more cards with more money! We (Papa and Nana) WANT to CEREBRATE all these new AND LONG AWAITED teeth.

We Love you Caleb, and your first card is already in the mail!

God Bless You ALWAYS!

Love, Nana & Papa

NEW TOoTH!!!!!

wowwsers, today is a special day in our household!!! After about 5 years of not having one, Caleb has popped his first front top (in auntie Roxi's words) "MAN TOOTH!!!!" YIPPIE!
There will be a picture when it comes out a little more......what a beauty!
Roxi There is a SANTA CLAUSE at Canada Post after all. So glad to hear that you got the package. and are enjoying the CD Sent your mom one too. Irish Memories !!!! It is the time for Christmas Rush. Greetings to everyone there. Love Auntie L

To Daniel You must be missing the family at this time of the year. It will be a bit of down time for you. Wondering how Christmas is celebratged in China. Love to you and a Rainbow of Hugs Auntie L

Our Little Granddaughters; Hadassah & Aunika

Hello Everyone.
You will see a series of video with the two little girls. Aunika is now ten months old but in the "Pool Party" is only 8 months and Dassi only 20.

Hadassah is now 22 months old, and in the next three videos she is painting and knows her colours. She gets messier as the videos progress. You need to scroll down to start at Video One (1) which is marked as such. Then work your way upward on the blog.

The darling girls are learning so much and growing so fast, it sure is wonderful for us ALL to get to watch this happen together. So a big THANK-YOU to their Mommies, Heidi and Roxi.

Keep on posting everyone. Daniel tells me that it often makes his day! He looks forward to each and every one that we post. Heidi, Kris, Mom and Dad, are sending Daniel a package. Kris got Daniels name in the draw and since he bought his gift on line we are combining the packages. I am waiting on Daniel for some measurements....hope he sends them to me soon.

Once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mark F....hope he had a "not to shabby of a day" (This is one of his sayings; hehehehe)

as Ever, Mother/Nana
